The insights gained from established local pilot projects such as CURANDUM are extremely important. The example named by Dr Springborn explains impressively how such integrated concepts in psychosocial care can relieve PCPs as well as emergency departments, and they can do this at comparatively little cost. CURANDUM shows the importance of relating to the neighborhood and that the service should be easily accessible.
For this reason we are currently studying social prescribing in primary care in a feasibility study funded by the German Research Foundation (DRKS00034654). Furthermore, a large project started in January, which is funded by the EU, on social prescribing for vulnerable population groups (SP-EU). Additionally we are evaluating a new care model in integrated primary care centers (Project NAVIGATION, funded by Federal Joint Committee innovation fund.
In this setting we consider it of fundamental importance that we bring together the expectations and experiences of primary care practitioners with a methodologically sound scientific evaluation, to further develop our healthcare system together.
